Hello world!
Hello, friends (or soon-to-be friends, (*wink wink*)
My name is Oluwademilade, but you can call me Demilade (pronounced Day-me-lah-day).
Now, let’s get to know me a bit better. I asked a few people to describe me in one word, and here’s what I got:
- Lover of God
- My beloved daughter (thanks, mom)
- Passionate
- Enjoyment master
- Quirky
- Crazy
These are certainly interesting perspectives. Here are some personal facts about me:
- I enjoy dipping my fries in mayonnaise.
- Oddly enough, I’m not a fan of chocolate.
- I watch Nollywood movies while I work out.
- I believe “The Office” is a bit overrated.
- When I visit Starbucks, I order warm soy milk 95% of the time.
Fun fact: My habit of ordering milk at Starbucks seems to puzzle some of their employees. I’ve received various reactions, from strange looks to free milk (though I suspect that last one was out of annoyance, haha).
Lastly, I want you to know that I am a Christian. My faith in Christ is a significant part of who I am; it defines my life.
Now, you might be wondering, “Why the blog?” Well, let’s dive into that.
The theme of my blog is “Revealing the Heart of the Father…and bringing sons back to the Father.” As I mentioned earlier, my faith is a cornerstone in my life. Over my years as a Christian, I’ve witnessed the beauty of the Lord, experienced His goodness, and felt His kindness. Despite life’s ups and downs, the Lord has remained faithful to me.
But it wasn’t always this way. In the past, I held a pessimistic view of God. Fear colored my perception of Him, and I saw Him as a harsh, judgmental figure ready to condemn my every mistake. However, as I’m growing, I’m coming to realize that my view of God is flawed. And the more I correct this view, the more I see His beauty.
Unfortunately, not everyone shares this perspective. Some have never been introduced to the God of the Bible or hold similar flawed views of Him. My hope and prayer is that through this blog, many will come to see Him for who He truly is and fall in love with Him, just as I have.
However, I do not only want to introduce people who are unfamiliar with God to Him; I also want to reintroduce Christians to their Father because, although God is indeed interested in reconciling sinners to Himself, He also desires to draw His children back to His heart.
As Christians, it can become so easy to get caught up in “serving God” that we forget that God desires sons and daughters above all else. Like the older brother in the story of the prodigal son, we can become so engrossed in religion, “Christianese”, and “working for God” that we start to think that our work for God qualifies us. However, our service will never be a prerequisite for our sonship. Yes, God may call you to various roles in the future: pastor, minister, worship leader, or Bible study convener. But all of that means very little if you haven’t learned what it means to be a son or daughter. And this is where the older brother got it wrong. He thought that his service to his father was a prerequisite for his love. However, he didn’t know that he would always be loved, whether he was a prodigal or living at home because His Father’s love will always be constant.
This is where the theme of this blog comes in. My dream is to see people reconciled to the Father—the prodigals and the sons who’ve lost their way home.
So, I invite you to journey with me in discovering who God truly is. As we uncover His character, we can better understand who He created us to be. This means filtering out the ‘Christianese’ and embracing authenticity.
Lastly, as we embark on this journey, expect me to rant. A lot. Because this world can be quite…
…. challenging. Adulting is not for the weak. I remember when I was little and all I wanted to do was grow up. Now that I’m here, I feel a little bit scammed because adulting isn’t always a walk in the park. It’s ghetto, if we’re being honest.
However, I have also learned that, despite its ups and downs, life is beautiful. I want to take as many people as I can on this authentic journey through life. Maybe you’ll avoid some of the mistakes I’ve made and learn a thing or two along the way. Be prepared to laugh; I consider myself hilarious (though some may disagree, but I think they’re just haters).
So, are you ready to go?
This is amazing!
I love the intro. Perfect!
